Nigerian Shippers’ Council Collaborates With Ghana Shippers’ Authority on Regulatory Framework, Port Costs Study

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC)  has collaborated with the Ghana Shippers’ Authority ( GSA) on regulatory framework and port related costs and charges study in tha West African sub-region. This followed the visit to the Council on Tuesday by an official of the GSA, Helena Claudia Amanfu, for talks. Amanfu said  the visit was part of a regional study that her agency started in 2018,  which will  also cover Cote’divoire, Togo, Senegal and Nigeria. She disclosed that  the  idea  is to understudy how port charges impact on the clearing process,  and learn about Nigeria’s experience at a time NSC is reviewing its Act to fully become ports economic regulator, she added that among the team include a member of the Ghanaian Parliament, Hon. Ex-NIMASA DG Gives Nodes To FG Proposed Financial And Administrative Autonomy For LGs

A former Director General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Ade Dosunmu MON, who is also a Public Policy Expert has given his nodes to the recent Federal Government's proposal for financial and administrative autonomy for local government by describing it as a "GAME CHANGER IN OUR DEMOCRATIC EXPERIENCE". Seme Customs Command Generates N2.6bn Revenue, Makes Over N840m Seizures In Five Months

The Seme Krake Border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it generated as revenue  of over N2.6bn with the first five months of 2024. The Command also recorded seizures which Duty Paid Value (DPV) was put at over N800million for the same period. The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Timi Bomodi stated this at a media briefing held at the command's headquarters on Tuesday. According to him, “the Command has continued to sustain the tempo in the area of revenue generation. In the period under review, we collected a total N 2,634,190, 645.53 only. This amount shows an increase of  272% when compared with the sum generated within the same period in 2023". In the area of anti-smuggling, the Controller said the Command recorded 474 interception of various contraband items within the period under review.  Among the items intercepted according to Compt. The President of Nigeria Community in Cote D'Ivoire,  Chief Onwuchelu Michael Emeka, has joined the League of a few West Africa nationals to be bestowed with the prestigious West Africa Icon Award for 2024. The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR on Monday, 21st May 2024, received the former Comptroller-General of Customs, Ahmed Mustapha at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Headquarters in Abuja. CBN Reveals Position On Revoking Licenses Of Fintech Banks

  The Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, has stated that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has not revoked the licenses of Moniepoint, Opay or any other fintech banks operating in Nigeria. He  disclosed this in a communique from Tuesday’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting held in Abuja, noting that the apex bank is not against fintechs. His reaction comes weeks after the CBN restricted OPay, Palmpay, Kuda Bank and Moniepoint from onboarding new customers over allegations of accounts being used for illicit foreign exchange transactions. Cardoso stressed the need for CBN to strengthen financial regulations to check against financial leakages.; Stating, “CBN is not against fintechs and has not revoked the license of any fintech organization. However, he stressed the need to strengthen regulation in the sector to check against leakages”. He added, “It’s our responsibility to ensure that the banking system remains sound, safe, and fit for purpose".     

FOU Zone B Seizes Donkey Products, Others Goods Worth Over #3.17Billion

He was said to have returned from church on Sunday , May 19th, 2024, after giving sermon on the topic: Holy Spirit at Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, Agbara Olorun Ni Gbani at Egbeda and complained of chest pain before he was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. The 68 old year old Owu Prince, hailed from Otileta Soyele Royal Family in Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State. He was one of the candidates who contested for the Owu stool in 2023 but lost the exalted seat to the present occupier. Prince Soyele was also the Group Managing Director (GMD) of Perceival Security and Safety Agencies Limited, a group of companies with head office in Abule Egba area of Lagos State. NAFDAC Partners With Foreign Agencies on Export Standards To Stop Rejection Of Nigerian Exports

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said it will fully automate the Export Licensing of regulated products in order to solve the perennial state of international rejection of Nigerian exports. This was revealed on Monday in Lagos by the  Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye at a national workshop for stakeholders in the export of NAFDAC-regulated products. She  explained that NAFDAC has partnered with several key organisations, such as the Nigeria Export Promotion Council, the Nigeria Customs Service, and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services. NAFDAC also collaborated with the CBN Trade & Exchange Department, which houses the Nigerian Export Supervision Scheme. The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public notification regarding the recall of Caro White Skin Lightening Beauty Lotion by the European Union (EU) Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (RAPEX). This action comes as the product fails to comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation due to its high concentration of Kojic Acid, which surpasses the allowable maximum concentration of one percent. This conclusion was drawn by the EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS). The presence of a high concentration of Kojic Acid raises concerns regarding potential endocrine-disrupting properties associated with its usage. PBAT Sends New Bill To National Assembly

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has transmitted a National Anti-Doping Bill to the Nigerian Senate for consideration and passage. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided over the session, read the president’s letter during plenary on Thursday Tinubu in the letter, requested for a quick passage of the Anti-Doping Bill before the next Olympic Games in July this year. He explained that the bill is a cardinal requirement for Nigeria to achieve compliance with the world anti-doping code and the international standard of good compliance by its signatories. Tinubu added that the quick passage of the bill will also help Nigeria avoid certain sanctions during the games.
