Seme Customs Command Generates N2.6bn Revenue, Makes Over N840m Seizures In Five Months


The Seme Krake Border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it generated as revenue  of over N2.6bn with the first five months of 2024. The Command also recorded seizures which Duty Paid Value (DPV) was put at over N800million for the same period.


The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Timi Bomodi stated this at a media briefing held at the command's headquarters on Tuesday.


According to him, “the Command has continued to sustain the tempo in the area of revenue generation. In the period under review, we collected a total N 2,634,190, 645.53 only. This amount shows an increase of  272% when compared with the sum generated within the same period in 2023".



In the area of anti-smuggling, the Controller said the Command recorded 474 interception of various contraband items within the period under review.  Among the items intercepted according to Compt. Bomodi, were 12,448 Jerrycans of 30 liters each which is equivalent to eight (8) tanker loads, 6,467 Bags of 50kg foreign perboiled rice, which is equivalent to 10 trailer loads,15 used vehicles, 1, 251 parcels of cannabis sativa, 149 packages of codeine and 45 pieces of used tyres”.


The Controller revealed that the Command noticed that there has been a marked increase in the illegal importation of cannabis from Ghana which has being identified as a transit route by the syndicate and their destination is Nigeria. He added that different methods have been used by these syndicate in their efforts to beat the eagle eyes of his officers, but added that all their efforts have always been neutralized. 



The command within the same period also seized wild animals such as, 20 live parrots, honey birds, pelican birds, 303 live tortoises.


In connection with these seizures, the Controller stated that 18 suspects were arrested, with 11 of them granted administrative bails, three handed over to NDLEA for further agency action, One was handed over to the Nigerian Police, while 4 suspects are still in our custody.


Compt. Bomodi also revealed that recently, through combined efforts of his officers and other security agencies, a notorious smuggler who usually unleash terror in the area with his charms and other dangerous weapons was neutralized and captured and will be made to face the full wrath of the law.



In the area of export, Compt. Bomodi stated that 143, 468 Metric Tonnes of export produce, with FOB value of N35, 199, 971. 097.7 which is equivalent to ($38, 461, 397.39, adding that the NESS value paid is ₦174, 518, 464.82 was Command facilitated.


He expressed his appreciation to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR and his management team for providing and working with the command in providing all the needed platform for Seme command to strife.

KLT Command Generates N36.6 Billion In 5 Months As Compt. Edeldouk TAKES Charge

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal command of the Nigeria Customs Service, said it has generated the sum of N36.6 billion between January and May this year.
