The Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to leadership continuity through its Succession Planning Programme held in Lagos recently. Tension in Surulere as Residents Oppose Construction of Cemetery Near Homes

R esidents of Natufe Estate and surrounding communities in the Bode Thomas area of Surulere, Lagos, on Saturday defied heavy rainfall to protest the alleged construction of a cemetery within their neighbourhood. The protest, which drew large crowds from Natufe, Animashaun, and adjoining streets, took place at the disputed site, a wide expanse of land off Babs Animashaun Road, bordered by residential buildings, a school, and a church, just a few metres from the Bode Thomas junction traffic light. Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “No Cemetery Here”, “Our Health Matters”, and “Protect Our Children, Stop the Cemetery Project”, the demonstrators accused the developers of attempting to force the project on them without community consent. Assistant Comptroller of Customs Akpevwe Ogboru, a trailblazing officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, has finally returned home after completing an extraordinary 72-day motorbike journey from Nigeria to Belgium and back.  Ogboru, who embarked on the adventurous trip on 1, August 2025, returned on Saturday, 11 October 2025, and was warmly received at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post by senior officers, including the host Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Wale Adenuga, alongside other Area Controllers within Zone A. NCS Calls For Collective Commitment For National Single Window Project To Succeed

T he Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has called for collective commitment from all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the National Single Window (NSW) initiative aimed at simplifying Nigeria’s import and export processes through a unified digital platform. The call was made by the Zonal Coordinator for Zone 'A', Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Mohammed Babandede, during the National Single Window Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum held in Lagos. Seme Customs In Revenue Boom; Generates N1.5b in One month, Seizes N2b worth of Contrabands , Gets First Bonded Terminal

Barely a month in office of Comptroller Wale Adenuga as the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Seme Krake Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, the command has witnessed a boom in revenue generation and other areas of operations of the command. The command has delivered a record-breaking performance that redefines excellence in border management, trade facilitation and national security. Comptroller Adenuga, who assumed duties on September 8, 2025 while addressing the press on Thursday, 9th of September disclosed that the command had generated the sum of N1,500,029,233.88 in September 2025, reflecting a significant increase of over 182% from the figure generated in August 2025 which stood at N531462332.45k. PROFESSOR AMUPITAN APPOINTED AS INEC CHAIRMAN

The National Council of State has approved the nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) from the North-Central as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to a press release issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy,  presented Amupitan as the nominee to fill the vacant position, following Professor Mahmood Yakubu's exit. Yakubu served from 2015 till October 2025. President Tinubu told the council that Amupitan is the first person from Kogi, North-Central state, nominated to occupy the position and is apolitical.  Council members unanimously supported the nomination, with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo describing Amupitan as a man of integrity.  In compliance with the constitution, President Tinubu will now send Amupitan’s name to the Senate for screening.
