Controller Alkali Strengthens Ties With Security Agencies At Onne Seaport


In a bid to foster inter agency collaboration and intelligence sharing, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Port Harcourt II Area Command, Comptroller Aliyu M. Alkali, has embarked on a series of strategic courtesy visits to key stakeholders operating at the Onne Seaport to achieve shared objectives and improve compliance with existing trade and security regulations.

During the visits, Comptroller Alkali met with the Commander of Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Port Harcourt Ports Command, Omerio Mathias Odo; the Director of State Security, Port Harcourt Ports Command; and the Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School, Onne, Rear Admiral Victor D. Choji.

According to a press release issued by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Chief Superintendent of Customs, CSC, Theophilus Peter Duniya, the CAC emphasized the importance of teamwork and synergy among agencies to propel progress in achieving their respective organizational objectives and goals.


He reiterated his commitment to keying into the Comptroller-General of Customs’ policy thrust of consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.  “I believe that active engagement with stakeholders will build strong relationships and enhance compliance with extant regulations; I pledge to sustain and improve on the existing cordial relationships, as I request for robust synergy from you”. Comptroller Alkali stated. The stakeholders thereafter, assured to work closely with the Customs Area Controller to achieve common goals.

The Commander of Narcotics, in his remark, pledged to synergize with the CAC in the Port to ensure that illicit drug supply is reduced to its barest minimum. The Director of State Security, Port Harcourt Ports Command expressed his commitment to sharing useful and timely intelligence that would enhance the operations of the Command.

While the Commandant of the Navy Basic Training School reaffirmed the commitment of the Navy to securing the maritime domain and making it safe for economic activities, he also pledged to support the Customs operations within the legal framework.These visits are ongoing to provide continual stakeholders engagement.

In response, the various stakeholders expressed their readiness to collaborate closely with the Customs Service. The NDLEA Commander pledged to work hand-in-hand with the CAC to curb illicit drug trafficking within the port. The Director of State Security assured continued sharing of relevant intelligence to support Customs operations, while Rear Admiral Choji reiterated the Navy’s commitment to safeguarding the maritime domain and providing operational support within the limits of the law.

These ongoing visits reflect Comptroller Alkali’s proactive leadership style and his dedication to continuous stakeholder engagement. His approach demonstrates a strong commitment to effective revenue generation, regulatory compliance, and enhanced security across the Onne Seaport.

Breaking News: CBN Ordered To Immediately Suspend Enforcement Of Cuber-Security Levy

Hon. Tajudeen Abbass Speaker of the House of Representatives   The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the enforcement of the controversial cybersecurity levy. The House took this decision following a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members. The House had expressed concern that the circular issued by the CBN could be misunderstood by Nigerians, it however, noted that the directive does not align with the principles outlined in section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act regarding the recipients responsible for paying the levy. The House urged the CBN to promptly retract its previous circular regarding the levy’s enforcement and instead publish a new circular aligned with the Act’s provisions. The cybersecurity levy was introduced by CBN through a circular to all banks on May 6, 2024, in accordance with the stipulations of the cybercrime Act.
