Seme Customs In Revenue Boom; Generates N1.5b in One month, Seizes N2b worth of Contrabands , Gets First Bonded Terminal
Barely a month in office of Comptroller Wale Adenuga as the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Seme Krake Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, the command has witnessed a boom in revenue generation and other areas of operations of the command.
The command has delivered a record-breaking performance that redefines excellence in border management, trade facilitation and national security.
Comptroller Adenuga, who assumed duties on September 8, 2025 while addressing the press on Thursday, 9th of September disclosed that the command had generated the sum of N1,500,029,233.88 in September 2025, reflecting a significant increase of over 182% from the figure generated in August 2025 which stood at N531462332.45k.
On export, the CAC said the Command facilitated the export of 53,989.46 metric tonnes of agricultural and manufactured goods, valued at ₦7.97 billion (FOB). This aligns with the Federal Government’s economic diversification goals and the CGC’s directive to promote legitimate trade. The Nigeria Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) fee stood at ₦39.87 million.
In the area of Anti-Smuggling, Adenuga in formed that his men in collaboration with sister agencies made a significant breakthrough as the command leveraged on the CGC's zero-tolerance policy on smuggling and intercepted and seized various unwholesome good with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1,999,093,429.
Breakdown of the seizures includes 10,000 bags of 50kg expired flour from Egypt, 1,104 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, 120 packs of Tramadol (120mg), with suspects handed over to NDLEA, 2,043 bags of of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 150 bales of second-hand clothing, 169 bottles of codeine syrup, and 5 used vehicles.
Comptroller Adenuga informed that the seizure of the expired flour which were brought in 5 trailers load from Egypt was made possible through intelligent reports directly from the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi mfr to him and the NAFDAC about unwholesome traffic which his men acted untill the five traillers were impounded. These seizures according to the CAC is a reflection of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding public health, national security and economic stability.
On Stakeholder Engagement & Regional Cooperation, two major stakeholder forums were held from October 6–7, 2025. The local engagement involved heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders where it was resolved to eliminate extortion and multiple checkpoints along the Seme Badagry axis.
The Regional Forum involved Benin Republic Customs, business leaders, and agents who collaborated to harmonize border operations and strengthen the Lagos–Abidjan corridor. Compt. Adenuga informed that at this engagement, the stakeholders raised concern on delay and congestions at the ECOWAS examination park, which has a capacity of holding 150 trucks with 75 on each side at a time. In a bid to ease the congestion, a bonded Terminal, name "Only God Is Wise Bonded Terminal was approved by the CGC and it has began operation to complement and ease congestion at the ECOWAS park
Comptroller Adenuga credited the CGC’s reform agenda, centered on transparency, modernization, and data-driven operations for the Command’s success. He emphasized that smuggling is economic sabotage and urged traders to invest in legitimate businesses that empower SMEs and create jobs.
He also praised the Nigerian Navy for their support in intercepting smuggled rice on waterways, the command helmsman equally thanked the ,Niveria Police Force, Department of States Services, NAFDAC, SON, and community leaders for their cooperation.
The expired bags of flour subsequently handed over to the representative of NAFDAC while the cannabis sativa and other drugs were handed over to representative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
