The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)  in her resolve to end illegal trade and trafficking in wildlife, is perfecting arrangements to extend capacity building in this area to all officers and men of the service. This is as a team of international partners, including the United States has promised assistance, particularly in training expertise and technology to boost the facilities on ground at the Customs Training College, Ikeja. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), through the directive of the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, in a proactive move has approved a 90-day window for regularizing import duties on specific categories of vehicles. This initiative, according to a statement from the service applies solely to vehicles imported into Nigeria where the requisite customs duty has not been fulfilled or vehicles detained due to undervaluation. The statement statement that vehicles seized and condemned will not be released under this arrangement and shall be forfeited to the Federal Government in accordance with extant regulations. The House of Representatives has dismissed a petition against the Managing Director/CEO, of the Nigeria Ports Authority NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko by a group known as "Forum of Non-Governmental Organisations in Nigeria". The group had petitioned the House Committee on Public Petitions, alleging that the managing Director recorded a bad debt of N178 billion in the audited financial statement of the authority in 2019. However, at the resumed public hearing of the committee, on Wednesday last week, the group failed to appear before the committee to substantiate the allegation. Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Mike Etaba (APC - Cross River) dismissed the petition for lack of merit. He stated that, “This is the sixth time and the petitioner has not been in this place. The case is hereby dismissed,” Etaba said. The Controller of the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘B’ Kaduna of the Nigeria Customs  Service (NCS), Comptroller Dalha Wada Chedi has handed over the officer alleged to have extorted the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00 from a car buyer  to the Assistant Provost Marshal (APM) Customs Police Unit, Kaduna for further investigations and actions. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has collaborated with the Directorate General Taxation and Customs Union (DG TAXUD) of the European Union (EU) for efficient export monitoring and trade facilitation. During a meeting that  at the Corporate Headquarters of NCS on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the Comptroller General of  Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, announced that the service is collaborating with DG TAXUD for efficiency in Export Monitoring and documentation.
