Customs Hands Over 120 Sacks Of Cannabis Sativa To NDLEA


The Nigeria Customs Service, Western  Marine Command yesterday, handed over 120 Sacks of Cannabis Sativa purposely known as indian hemp to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA at Ibafon, Apapa, Lagos.

The sacks containing 10,551 Loaves of Cannabis Sativa was handed over at a ceremony which took place in the premises of the command at Ibafon,  Apapa Lagos.

Speaking at the , the Customs  Area Controller of the command, Compt. Odaudu A Salefu disclosed that the handover was in line with upholding the spirit the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)  between the Nigeria Customs Service and Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA signed on the April 4, 2023 to ensure synergy and collaboration in tackling illicit trafficking in hard drugs along Nigeria’s entry and exit points, the NCS under the leadership of the CGC, Bashir Adawale Adeniyi MFR  has directed the WMC to hand  over the  120 sacks of Cannabis Sativa with a total street value of N704,518,000.00 to the NDLEA for further Agency action.


The Controller added that the 120 Sacks handed over to the NDLEA  we’re seized in 3 different operations at Jegemo Island, opposite Iworo Ajido Waterfront and Ashipa Beach, along Seme border on the November 29, 2023, December 2, 2023 and January 19,2024.

Salefu while praising the officers and men of the command said,  ”The seizure is also a product of our Command’s wide network of intelligence, with suspects of these trade still at large but the command will now work with NDLEA to effect the arrest of these wicked traders".

The command's heldman affirmed that Western Marine Command remains steadfast in it’s commitment to safeguard the nation’s economic interest by working with sister Agencies”. He called on all Nigerians to desist from illicit and illegal cross border trade practices, as it’s bad for the general economic and health welfare of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Receiving the hard drugs on behalf of the NDLEA, Mr, Paul Ahum, the Commander, Narcotics of the Marine Command, who informed that this is the first time Nigeria Customs Service is handing over seized cannabis to NDLEA this year appreciated the effort of the Nigeria Customs Service in helping in the fight against illicit and dangerous trade of drugs and promised that their agency, which is headed by Major General Buba Marwa (Rtd) will continue to do all in it's power to make sure those involved in the illicit trade are brought to justice.
