SEAFARER CERTIFICATION.: NIMASA, NIGERIAN NAVY TO DEEPEN COLLABORATION

The Director General (DG) of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr.Bashir Jamoh, OFR, has restated the Agency’s commitment to issuing appropriate certification to qualified men of the Nigerian Navy who undergo requisite trainings at the Nigerian Naval Training Command, NAVTRAC.   The DG stated this when a delegation from NAVTRAC led by the Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu paid a working visit to the Agency, he noted the need for collaboration to enhance capacity development and professionalism in line with global best practices.   Jamoh, who urged NAVTRAC to close identified gaps to ensure training and the curriculum of the Naval Training Command is in line with the curricula of international training institutes for maritime professionals, with particular reference to the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW), however, emphasized the need for both the Nigerian Navy and NIMASA to keep collaborating for the good of t

NIMASA NOT A REVENUE GENERATING AGENCY – Dr. Ade Dosunmu (MON)

A former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA)   Dr Ade Dosunmu, MON has faulted the advice of Presidential Policy Advisory group proposing a merger of NIMASA, CUSTOMS and the FIRS.  In a statement he personally signed, Dr Dosunmu stated that NIMASA is not a revenue generating agency describing such advice as is a very serious misconception and dangerous for the future of shipping/ Maritime industry in Nigeria.  The statement reads in full, “My attention has been drawn to speculation purported to have emanated from the Presidential Policy Advisory group erroneously classifying the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) as a revenue generating Agency, thereby proposing a merger of NIMASA, CUSTOMS and FIRS. Ogun II Customs Command Rakes In Over N9 Billion From Excise Duty In 5 Months

The Ogun II Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has achieved an extraordinary growth in revenue, amounting to N9,260,033,178.55, from January to May 2023. This fate was revealed by the Acting Customs Area Controller of the command, DC Ahmadu Shuaibu, at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun state. The fare, when compared with the corresponding period in 2022, the Command experienced a significant increase of 25.44 percent in revenue. This surge in earnings during the first five months of 2023 is unprecedented in the history of the Ogun II Command. KEBBI COMMAND RAKES IN #98 MILLION, HANDS OVER SEIZED DONKEY MEAT AND SKINS TO NAQS

The Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has generated the sum of ninety eight million two hundred and eighty six thousand five hundred and fifty two (₦98, 286, 552) naira in the month of May, which represents 111% of the Command's monthly revenue target. This was disclosed by the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Dr. Ben Oramalugo while handing over seized donkey meat and skins to the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services (NAQS) in the spirit of interagency agency collaboration. According to a statement signed by ASCII Mubarak Mustapha, the Public Relation Officer of the command, the items handed over were four hundred and fourteen (414) sacks of donkey meat and skins seized by the Command and    the process of seizure started from Maje border, and ended in Kamba axis in May he said. CGC Defends Recruitment Process in Customs, Claims Federal Character Principles Applied

Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Col. Hameed Ali,(Rtd ) has defended the recruitment exercise in the Nigerian Customs Service saying     the process maintains federal character principles.   Apparently reacting to allegations from some quarters that recruitment in the Service is usually carried out to favour a particular section of the country, the CGC said all the new officers are drawn from the 774 local government areas of the country, While referring to the last recruitment process, Ali, who was in Customs Training College, Ikeja to mentor the new cadets.said, “This is the most rigorous recruitment we had and this is the one that complied with Federal character in its whole entirety, whereby, we have representatives from 774 local government in Nigeria. “Every local government produced an officer and three other cadets. NPA To Continue Synergy With Nigerian Navy

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has said it is willing to continue with the existing collaboration between it and the Nigerian Navy in line with its robust policy of inter-agency partnership. Managing Director of NPA, Mallam Mohammed Bello-Koko, gave the assurance in Lagos when he played host to the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral, Joseph Akpan, who was on a working visit to the Headquarters of NPA. The MD noted that it was necessary for all the agencies of government to work together towards achieving the goal of making the country’s maritime domain safe and secure to achieve the dream of making Nigerian Ports a hub in Africa While speaking,    The Flag Officer thanked the NPA management for the warm reception accorded to him and his team, he added that this is the right time for both agencies to further strengthen the already existing cooperation between them in the overall interest of the maritime industry and the nation at large.

BREAKING: Tinubu Suspends EFCC Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has approved the indefinite suspension of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office. According to a statement issued by the Director, Information office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, The suspension follows allegations of abuse of office while in office as the Chairman of EFCC. The statement added that Bawa has been directed to handover the affairs of his office to the Director of Operations in the Commission who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman pending the conclusion of the investigation.
