The Founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam says the party will soon announce a frontline presidential candidate it will be adopting for the 2027 presidential elections.
The NNPP Founder disclosed this in a statement issued today, Tuesday, 13 October, 2026 by the National Publicity Secretary of the party
In the statement, Dr Aniebonam explained that due to prolonged litigation over leadership of the party, it did not have enough time to process a presidential candidate that could match frontline candidates in some political parties.
"Indeed INEC recognised the NNPP led by Dr Agbo Major as the National Chairman but the time was short from the recognition to getting a candidate; "We had a placement candidate while shopping for an authentic presidential candidate with Character and capacity for 2027 election
Continuing he said, "the NNPP is firm with its manifesto and requirements for a presidential candidate. We made a mistake with Kwankwaso in 2023 and do not want to repeat such mistake again. "The NNPP is not desperate to rule Nigeria at all cost. We believe that God has the final say and that the Almighty decides who can lead a nation, hence our stance on politics not being a do or die affair".
The NNPP founder said that the party leadership nationwide would be meeting soon to finalize the adoption arrangement and make it known to Nigerians.
"The one thing that is sacrosanct is that we will adopt a candidate that we believe is best for Nigeria and Nigerians".
He said that members of the party, maritime practitioners, shippers and other critical stakeholders in the maritime transport and logistics businesses would also have a say in the presidential candidate the party would be adopting for the 2027 election.
Aniebonam also revealed that the NNPP contest for other elective political positions is non negotiable, he noted that its candidates nationwide are still in the 2027 race.
"For now, the only position we will no longer be contesting for is the presidency. By 2031, we would have elected a presidential candidate to compete favourable with other political parties," he concluded
