NCS Commiserates with Gumel Emirate, Jigawa State

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS has Commiserated with the government and people of Jigawa State and the royal family of the Gumel Emirate over the death of the late Emir of Gumel, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II.

Conveying the message, the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, PhD who was represented at the funeral prayers held at the Gumel Emirate Palace by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Usman Adamu, described the passing of the late Emir as a great loss to his people and the nation.

According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe, on Friday, 5 September, 2026, the CGC said the late traditional ruler would be remembered for his long years of selfless service to his people, his commitment to peace and unity, and his concern for the welfare and development of the Gumel Emirate.

“The death of His Royal Highness is a great loss to the Gumel Emirate, Jigawa State and indeed Nigeria. He was a respected traditional leader who dedicated many years to the service of his people, while consistently supporting the efforts of the Nigeria Customs Service and other agencies operating within his domain to safeguard our borders and promote legitimate trade.”

He added, “On behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the people of Gumel and the government and people of Jigawa State. At this difficult moment, we share in their grief and pray that Almighty Allah grants the deceased eternal rest and gives his family, subjects and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.”

The funeral prayer attracted dignitaries from within and outside Jigawa State, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Governors of Jigawa and Kano States, royal fathers, government officials and thousands of mourners from all walks of life.

The late Emir reportedly spent 46 years on the throne, making his reign one of the longest in Gumel Emirate's history.

NCS Medical Team Trains Apapa Area Command Officers On First Aid
