Customs Intercepts Rifle Components, Cannabis-Infused Cookies Products Concealed In Three 40ft Containers.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) TinCan Island Ports Command, has intercepted a container concealed with completely  knockdown pump‑action rifle components and two 40‑foot containers of cannabis‑infused products worth ₦373,802,640 at the Tin Can Island Port Command.

The Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi PhD, Mfr, in the presence of the Zonal Coordinator of Zone 'A', ACG Mohammed Babandede, the Controller of Federal Operations Unit Zone A Comptroller GT Aliyu and other Controllers with the zone disclosed this while speaking to journalists on Thursday, 6th August, 2026, at the TinCan island Command while displaying the seizures.

Giving account of the seizures, the CGC narrated that Container No. TEMU 184536/9, which arrived aboard MV VELIKA on July 8, 2026, was flagged by Customs Risk Management System, surveillance and physical examination uncovered concealed crates of JoJeff pump‑action rifle parts and as at time he was speaking officers has been able to assemble only 140 pump‑action rifles from the seized components as according to him, it takes much time to sort out and assemble


Speaking further, he said investigations into the operation led to the arrest of a suspect on July 31 at Migfo Bonded Terminal, with financial and telecom records linking him to the consignee. Two suspects remain in custody, while another principal suspect is at large.

In a separate operation, Customs intercepted two containers of illicit cannabis‑infused products concealed among used vehicles, generators, fabrics, batteries, and cables. 


The seizures included 109 cartons of Delta‑8 cannabis pre‑roll cookies (8,720 pieces, 17.44 kg) valued at ₦308,792,640, 125 cartons of Delta‑8 cannabis gummies (740 packs, 515.2 kg) valued at ₦40,700,000 and 73 cartons of cannabis cookies (442 packs, 309.4 kg) valued at ₦24,310,000.
The total street value was put at ₦373,802,640.

The Comptroller General warned that Customs will relentlessly pursue all individuals connected to the smuggling operations. He commended the Tin Can Island Port Command led by Comptroller Joseph Anani and Enforcement Unit of the Command for their vigilance and acknowledged the support of sister security agencies.

According to him, Nigerian ports will never be safe havens for the trafficking of illicit weapons, narcotics, or other prohibited goods.


“This is a very delicate period for Nigeria. We are about entering a major election cycle and we know that at this period, men of the underworld will want to use our borders, our ports, our airports to bring in items like this.

“We are going to redouble our efforts to ensure that we do not allow them to do so. While they make attempts, they will want to find accomplices within the Customs and other security agencies. I want to assure Nigerians that Nigeria Customs Service will not have any of these people who will want to serve as accomplices or use their position to influence the importation of goods that will threaten our peace and security and threaten the credibility and peaceful conduct of the next general election". he stressed.

On the Yet-to-be assembled rifles, the Comptroller General said the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Anani will at the end give the total number of the pump Action rifles at the appropriate time.    While emphasising  that the recent operations reflects Customs’ commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders against prohibited imports that threaten national security and public health.
