CGC Adeniyi Charges Deputy Comptrollers on Innovation, Future Leadership

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has urged Deputy Comptrollers to embrace innovation, strengthen their leadership capabilities, and prepare to steer the Service through an era of rapid technological advancement and institutional reform.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Strategic Refresher Course for Deputy Comptrollers at the Nigeria Customs Training College, Ikeja, on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Adeniyi stressed that continuous professional development is essential as customs administrations worldwide increasingly adopt digital technologies, automation, and modern operational systems.

He said the NCS is investing heavily in both local and international training programmes to equip officers with the skills and expertise needed to meet evolving global standards. According to him, officers must demonstrate competence, readiness, and the ability to take on greater leadership responsibilities, noting that leadership is measured through sustained performance, commitment, and tangible results.

Also speaking, the Zonal Coordinator of Zone ‘A’, Assistant Comptroller-General Mohammed Babandede, charged the officers to uphold discipline, professionalism, and integrity while serving as role models within the Service. He said the training had better positioned them to mentor junior officers, promote transparency, and make sound operational decisions during challenging situations.

The Acting Provost Marshal, Deputy Comptroller Saulawa Sanusi, reaffirmed the Customs Police Unit’s commitment to strengthening discipline and operational compliance through continuous engagement and training. He emphasised that regular orientation on the Nigeria Customs Service’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is crucial to building a culture of compliance across the organisation.

The Strategic Refresher Course is part of the Nigeria Customs Service’s ongoing efforts to build a highly skilled leadership team capable of driving institutional reforms, improving service delivery, and aligning the Service with global best practices.
