Apapa Customs Seizes 25.5kg Cocaine Concealed in Brazilian Ship, Hands Over to NDLEA


The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a large consignment of cocaine weighing 25.5kg onboard a Brazilian ship, MV San Anthonio, which has been conseqeuntily detained at the Lagos port. 


‎The illicit drugs which were packaged in 24 parcels/slabs, were cleverly hidden in five bags discovered during a customs intelligence-led search.


‎The seizure, according to the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba is a testament to the robust synergy between the NCS and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), he lauded the discovery, emphasizing that it was a direct result of collaborative efforts between the two agencies of government.


‎According to Comptroller Oshoba, Customs intelligence revealed that the ship had visited ports in Honduras, Guatemala and other suspected hubs for illicit drug trade before arriving in Nigeria.



Oshoba reiterated the NCS’s commitment to ensuring that only legitimate trade thrives in the port of Apapa and in line with the zero-compromise directive of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.


‎While handing over the seized illicit drug  to CN Haliru Umar, the Commander, Apapa Strategic Command of NDLEA for further actions, Comptroller Oshoba emphasized that this seizure and detention serve as a strong warning to perpetrators of unlawful trade within the port system,  he assured that the NCS will continue to strengthen its synergy with sister government agencies to prevent unlawful trade especially as the Yuletide season approaches, the command's boss warned that the NCS will not in any way compromise national security and economy for the sake of trade facilitation.

Breaking News: CBN Ordered To Immediately Suspend Enforcement Of Cuber-Security Levy

Hon. Tajudeen Abbass Speaker of the House of Representatives   The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the enforcement of the controversial cybersecurity levy. The House took this decision following a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members. The House had expressed concern that the circular issued by the CBN could be misunderstood by Nigerians, it however, noted that the directive does not align with the principles outlined in section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act regarding the recipients responsible for paying the levy. The House urged the CBN to promptly retract its previous circular regarding the levy’s enforcement and instead publish a new circular aligned with the Act’s provisions. The cybersecurity levy was introduced by CBN through a circular to all banks on May 6, 2024, in accordance with the stipulations of the cybercrime Act.
