A New Tide Rises: WIMA Nigeria Gets New Chapter‎ As Macfoy hands over leadership reigns to Nwaeze

In a peaceful election marked by harmony, sisterhood, and gratitude, African Women in Maritime (WIMA) Nigerian chapter closed one remarkable chapter and opened another, stronger one.

‎

‎After four years defined by unity, dignity, and quiet strength, Mrs. Rollens Macfoy bowed out as President, leaving behind a legacy anchored on peace, women supporting women, and leadership without scandal. Hers was a tenure that proved that when women lead with humility and faith, institutions grow without friction. As she steps forward to wear an even bigger continental cap as Vice President, WIMA Africa (Anglophone), her presence remains a guiding light - still here, still leading, still serving.

‎Her valedictory words were not of departure, but of continuity: gratitude to God Almighty, appreciation for ambassadors, mentors, and an Executive Council that worked as one body - no quarrels, no bitterness, only shared purpose.

‎


With renewed energy and a bold sense of direction, Mrs. Theodora Nwaeze emerged as the new President of WIMA Nigeria, alongside a fresh Executive Council ready to build on solid foundations and chart new waters.

‎

‎The new WIMA Nigeria President story is one of vision, structure, and national ambition. Going by her first words, it was clear: this would be a presidency driven by empowerment, innovation, collaboration, and visibility. Not leadership for title’s sake, but leadership for impact.

‎

‎Mrs. Nwaeze steps in with a promise that every woman in WIMA Nigeria will be seen, heard, supported, and positioned. From leadership pipelines and mentorship circles to digital transformation and blue economy skills, her agenda signals a modern WIMA - confident, strategic, and future-facing.

‎

‎"This is a presidency that intends to move WIMA Nigeria from events to enduring capacity building from quiet work to national visibility; from concentration in one location to true nationwide presence; and from participation to influence," Nwaezee said.

‎

‎


Her vision reaches beyond Lagos, beyond Nigeria, and firmly into Africa and the global maritime space—strengthening alliances, activating states, and embedding WIMA Nigeria into national conversations on the marine and blue economy.

‎

‎Together with her Executive Council, Mrs. Nwaeze represents a new generation of leadership: inclusive, digitally aware, media-conscious, and deeply rooted in service. A team poised not just to maintain the house, but to expand it.

‎

‎Other members of the new executives include; Mrs. Temilade Ogunniyi as Vice President; Mrs. Obiageli Benjamin as Secretary; Mrs. Yetunde Olori-Oladipo as Assistant Secretary; Mrs. Onome Joy Monije as Treasurer; Ms. Favour Kalu as Assistant Treasurer; Mrs. Lola Adesokan as Public Relations Officer (PRO); Mrs. Aisha Imukoro as Assistant PRO.

‎The event was graced by several maritime Amazon's including; the President of Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria (MAAN), Mrs. Jean Chiazor Anishere SAN; Co-Founder of Committee of Friends for Humanity (COFFHA), Chief (Mrs.) Carol Ufere; President of Women's International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Nigeria, Mrs. Odunayo Ani; Managing Director of Hudson Gee Nigeria Limited, Mrs. Gloria Kanabe; among others.

NIMASA Reshuffles Management Team For Enhanced Efficiency And Inter-departmental Collaboration

I n an exercise aimed  at strengthening  inter-departmental collaboration and inject new energy into the system to further improve performance and enhance efficiency across the maritime sector, The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has announced a strategic redeployment of its management staff as part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery in line with its core mandate.   Under the new structure, according to a press statement issued by Mr. Edward Osagie FNIPR,  Head, Public Relations Officer of the agency, a total of 56 management staff were affected in the exercise.
