NIMASA GETS NEW SHIP REGISTRAR

The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, has approved the appointment of Barrister Adenike Adeyele Iyelolu as the new Registrar of Ships for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

‎Her appointment, which follows the recommendation of the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, according to a press release issued by Mr Osagie Edward FNIPR, is In line with the NIMASA Act 2007.

‎The Registrar of Ships, which is for a four-year tenure will report directly to the Director General for the effective administration of the Nigerian Ship Registry. The Act provides that “the Registrar of Ships shall, with the approval of the Minister, be appointed by the Director General from among the staff of the Agency.”

‎Adenike Iyelolu who is currently a Deputy Director in NIMASA replaces Barr. Tajudeen Giwa who has just retired after years of commendable service is an accomplished legal and maritime governance professional with over twenty-five (25) years of post-call experience spanning maritime and legal practice, arbitration, procurement, contract administration, corporate governance, and institutional leadership amongst others.

Breaking News: CBN Ordered To Immediately Suspend Enforcement Of Cuber-Security Levy

Hon. Tajudeen Abbass Speaker of the House of Representatives The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the enforcement of the controversial cybersecurity levy. The House took this decision following a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members. The House had expressed concern that the circular issued by the CBN could be misunderstood by Nigerians, it however, noted that the directive does not align with the principles outlined in section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act regarding the recipients responsible for paying the levy. The House urged the CBN to promptly retract its previous circular regarding the levy’s enforcement and instead publish a new circular aligned with the Act’s provisions. The cybersecurity levy was introduced by CBN through a circular to all banks on May 6, 2024, in accordance with the stipulations of the cybercrime Act.
