NCS, NPA Collaborate to Boost Port Efficiency

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of Nigerian ports.

During a courtesy visit to the NPA on Thursday, 13 February 2025, the CGC noted that the success of the NCS is closely tied to the effectiveness of the ports, saying, "If we get it right in our ports, we will get it right in the Service".

He further stated: "We have a number of initiatives that we are pursuing, and we need the critical buy-in of a stakeholder like the NPA for those initiatives to succeed".

The CGC commended the existing collaboration between the NCS and the NPA, highlighting the success achieved at the Export Processing Terminal. He expressed optimism about implementing similar initiatives in the eastern ports to boost export activities.

"The Nigeria Customs Service is ready to work with our ports authority on initiatives that will ensure the competitiveness of our ports," he added.

In response, the Managing Director of the NPA, Abubakar Dantsoho, assured the NCS of the NPA's unwavering support.

"We are here for you, and we will give you all the necessary support. Together, we can move both agencies forward and help Nigeria become a better country," he concluded.

Breaking News: CBN Ordered To Immediately Suspend Enforcement Of Cuber-Security Levy

Hon. Tajudeen Abbass Speaker of the House of Representatives The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the enforcement of the controversial cybersecurity levy. The House took this decision following a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members. The House had expressed concern that the circular issued by the CBN could be misunderstood by Nigerians, it however, noted that the directive does not align with the principles outlined in section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act regarding the recipients responsible for paying the levy. The House urged the CBN to promptly retract its previous circular regarding the levy’s enforcement and instead publish a new circular aligned with the Act’s provisions. The cybersecurity levy was introduced by CBN through a circular to all banks on May 6, 2024, in accordance with the stipulations of the cybercrime Act.
