NCS Releases 15 Detained Trucks of Grain in Compliance With Presidential Directive

In adherence to a directive from the Presidency, the Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has released fifteen (15) trucks of grain detained under its custody back to their respective owners. Comptroller Kamal Mohammed mni who presided over the handover ceremony at the Command Headquarters in Sokoto, emphasized the importance of compliance with the Presidential directive

During the handover, Comptroller Kamal charged the traders to reciprocate the magnanimity shown by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by ensuring that the grains are sold exclusively within Nigerian markets. He further announced that the Command, in collaboration with the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) and the Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT), would closely monitor the sales of these grains to prevent any attempts at smuggling them out of the country.

Highlighting the significance of the directive, Comptroller Kamal reminded traders and the general public that grains and their derivatives are prohibited from exportation under existing laws. He issued a stern warning to smugglers, stressing the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, to combat smuggling activities comprehensively.

Responding on behalf of the traders, Alhaji Dahiru Ladan, Secretary of the Grain Sellers Association of Sokoto, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his compassionate decision. He assured that the Union would uphold their commitment to selling the grains exclusively within Nigerian markets, thus supporting efforts to enhance food security and prevent illegal exportation of essential commodities.

The release of the detained trucks signifies a collaborative effort between the government and stakeholders to ensure food security and curb illegal activities at the borders.

With increased monitoring and enforcement measures in place, the Nigeria Customs Service aims to safeguard the nation’s interests and promote economic stability within the agricultural sector.
