PORTS CONCESSION: MINISTER REVEALS CONDITIONS FOR RENEWAL …PROMISES QUICK PASSAGE OF NSC AMENDMENT BILL

The Minster of Transportation, Engr. Mu'azu Jaji Sambo has spelt out conditions that must be met by respective companies before ports concession agreements with them could be renewed.         While promising quick passage of the Nigerian Shipper’ Council (NSC) amendment bill, the minister said companies seeking renewal of ports concession agreements must show satisfactory evidence of performance in terms of fulfilling the agreements, meeting key performance indicators and other obligations incumbent upon them.   According to a press release by Henshaw Ogubike mnipr Director Press and Public Relations in the ministry of transportation, Engr Sambo made this known during an official visit to the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) in Lagos, saying ports reforms were meant to achieve efficiency in ports operations, increase cargo traffic and improve revenue; he added that these would be key considerations in renewing concession agreements.  While placing the responsibility of approving por

REGIONAL COLLABORATION - NIMASA PROVIDES TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR SÃO TOMÉ AND PRÍNCIPE

TINCAN ISLAND PORT CSR SHIP BERTHS AT KANKON BADAGRY

The TinCan Island Port of the Nigerian Ports Authority in a view to reaching out to their host community under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative program, last week visited the Lagos State Model Collage Kankon in Badagry where it donated school bags to students and umbrellas to the teachers. Comptroller Auwal Never Said He Will Abandon Scanners For Physical Examination - CSC Usman

Contrary to the news making the rounds that the new Customs Area     Controller (CAC) of Apapa Customs Command, of the Nigeria Customs Service, Compt, Auwal Mohammed has rejected the use of the mobile scanners in the command for cargo examination , the Command’s Image maker, Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) Usman has cleared the air concerning the issue. Usman, while speaking to our correspondent in his office said the CAC was quoted out of context. He said what his boss said was that no container will leave the port without being 100% examined and that the scanners which is like an X-ray machine will examine the container 100%. He disclosed that the scanners, which were commissioned last year for operation scans about 175 containers on daily basis at the Apapa port. DEEP BLUE TEAM RESCUES 7 DISTRESSED WORKERS ONBOARD VESSEL IN LAGOS

Following a distress call to the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh OFR.,     7 distressed workers were     saved by the prompt response of the agency.   The call, according to Osagie Edward, the Assistant Director, Public Relations of NIMASA, the call came in at about 11.30 pm on February 2, 2023, from the Safety Officer on MT ALIMA reported that while cleaning the tanks of the vessel by a private cleaning company, 8 of the cleaners developed complications due to insufficient oxygen available in the tank to sustain them. NIGERIAN IMPORTERS AND EXPORTERS TO BENEFIT IMMENSELY FROM INLAND DRY PORTS - FG
