The Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has begun sensitising officers and key stakeholders ahead of the introduction of the Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS). The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, announced this during a stakeholders’ workshop held at the PTML Conference Hall on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. According to DC Miko, PTML was selected as the second pilot command for the nationwide implementation of the ECTS following its successful deployment at the Apapa Area Command. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with journalists to build public trust, improve communication on its reforms and ensure Nigerians receive accurate information on its trade facilitation, border security, anti-smuggling and economic development responsibilities. The Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC) has called for stronger collaboration among government agencies operating at the nation's seaports to eliminate cargo clearance delays, reduce cargo damage and minimise the legal and financial disputes arising from prolonged port operations. The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed reports alleging that smugglers barricaded the Idiroko–Sango Ota road in Ogun State, describing the claims as false and a misrepresentation of an unfortunate traffic incident. According to information made available to the media, the traffic gridlock was caused by an accident involving a commercial trailer which broke down after falling into a badly failed section of the Atan road, leading to a temporary obstruction of vehicular movement. The Command clarified that the vehicles trapped in the resulting congestion were legitimate commercial trucks conveying red palm oil to local markets and had no connection whatsoever with smuggling activities.
