DG, Mobereola Assures Maritime Stakeholders of Inclusivity

The new Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola has pledged that the agency under his watch would run an all-inclusive governance system where stakeholders would be the centre- piece of the policies and programmes of the agency. Speaking at the maiden meeting with stakeholders organised by the Maritime Stakeholders Group MSG in Lagos, Thursday, the new DG also assured that the management has already commenced the process of automating the country’s Ship Registry, which would be completed soon. Customs Network Failure: NAGAFF 100% Compliance Team Petitions Finance Ministry

Following the reoccurring network failures of the Customs Server, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) 100% Compliance Team has formally petitioned the Federal Ministry of Finance following the recurrent server failures within the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) infrastructure.  These failures, according to the team have led to severe consequences, including substantial financial losses at the Lagos seaports. In a letter addressed to the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, the NAGAFF team expressed deep concern over the ongoing challenges caused by the Customs Service server malfunctions which have lasted for a while now. NCS Signs MoU With Chinese Customs For Economic Growth Enhancement

In a bid to foster bilateral relationship for the enhancement of economic growth between Nigeria and the Peoples' Republic of China, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday, 8th May 2024, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC). Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi MFR who led some of his management team to Shenzhen highlighted the significance of knotting bilateral affiliation with China, which, according to him, will boost the two countries' import-export operations and favour the businesses of MSMEs in Nigeria.  The CGC appreciated the Vice Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, Wang Lingjun, for showing interest in signing MoU with the NCS. Senator Ali Ndume, the senator representing Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly has kicked against the controversial cybersecurity levy.  Speaking on the issue  on a Channels Television program on Friday, May 10, Ndume said it is not proper for the government to continue to levy the citizens while nothing is done to increase their income. WMC Seizes 12,500 Liters Worth Of PMS Along The Badagry Creeks

The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, in fulfillment of its anti-smuggling functions has made a major onslaught against the reign of smuggling on the Western Waterways and Creeks  with the seizure of One Hundred and Seventy Seven (177) Sacks and Sixty One (61) Kegs of 25 Litres containing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) along Isalu Creek Badagry Waterway en-route Benin Republic. This was revealed by the Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller PK Bamisaiye yesterday during a press briefing at the command's Headquarters in Ibafon, Lagos. Breaking News: CBN Ordered To Immediately Suspend Enforcement Of Cuber-Security Levy

Hon. Tajudeen Abbass Speaker of the House of Representatives   The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the enforcement of the controversial cybersecurity levy. The House took this decision following a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members. The House had expressed concern that the circular issued by the CBN could be misunderstood by Nigerians, it however, noted that the directive does not align with the principles outlined in section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act regarding the recipients responsible for paying the levy. The House urged the CBN to promptly retract its previous circular regarding the levy’s enforcement and instead publish a new circular aligned with the Act’s provisions. The cybersecurity levy was introduced by CBN through a circular to all banks on May 6, 2024, in accordance with the stipulations of the cybercrime Act.
