CONMMEP Honours TinCan Command Spokesperson For Excellence In Public Relations

The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) has honoured the Public Relations Officer of TinCan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) Oscar Enya Ivara, with its Customs Commands' Best Public Relations Officer Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to strategic communication and stakeholder engagement.

The award was presented during CONMMEP's Annual Lecture and 5th Anniversary Celebration, held on June 25 and 26, 2026, in Ikeja, Lagos, where distinguished personalities in the maritime industry were recognised for exceptional performance and leadership ingenuity.

Established in 2021, CONMMEP marked five years of promoting professionalism, advocacy and constructive engagement within Nigeria's maritime sector.


Presenting the award, the association cited Ivara's sustained excellence in public communication, transparency and media relations, describing him as one of the most responsive and professional Customs spokespersons in the country.

According to CONMMEP, Ivara's more than 13 years of effective media engagement across major Customs commands have strengthened collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and maritime journalists, enhanced public confidence and reduced misinformation through timely dissemination of accurate information.
The association also commended his digital advocacy in promoting the B'Odogwu Customs clearance platform at Tin Can Island Port Command, noting that the initiative has contributed to improved compliance, operational efficiency and revenue transparency.

Among the achievements highlighted were the prompt public disclosure of the Command's ₦347.93 billion first-quarter 2025 revenue and the announcement of its record ₦16.41 billion single-day revenue collection on August 19, 2025.


Receiving the award, Ivara expressed appreciation to CONMMEP for the honour, describing the recognition as both humbling and encouraging.

According to Ivara, "The reward for hard work is more work. I sincerely thank CONMMEP for finding me worthy of this honour. I am deeply humbled and will not take this recognition for granted."

The TinCan Customs PRO also congratulated the association on its fifth anniversary and reaffirmed the Command's commitment to maintaining a productive relationship with the maritime media.

"On behalf of the Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Island Port Command, Comptroller Joseph Anani, and the entire officers and men of the Command, I congratulate CONMMEP on its fifth anniversary. We remain committed to sustaining our collaboration with CONMMEP and the maritime media in promoting the activities of the Nigeria Customs Service," he added.

Speaking at the event, CONMMEP President, Comrade Udo Onyeka, reiterated the association's commitment to recognising excellence and professionalism within the maritime industry.
He stated that CONMMEP would continue to identify, celebrate and encourage public officers and maritime practitioners whose integrity, dedication and outstanding service contribute significantly to the growth and development of Nigeria's maritime sector.

The awards formed part of activities marking CONMMEP's fifth anniversary, which also featured its annual lecture and brought together key stakeholders from the maritime industry, government agencies and the media to discuss issues affecting the sector.

NIMASA Reshuffles Management Team For Enhanced Efficiency And Inter-departmental Collaboration

I n an exercise aimed  at strengthening  inter-departmental collaboration and inject new energy into the system to further improve performance and enhance efficiency across the maritime sector, The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has announced a strategic redeployment of its management staff as part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery in line with its core mandate.   Under the new structure, according to a press statement issued by Mr. Edward Osagie FNIPR,  Head, Public Relations Officer of the agency, a total of 56 management staff were affected in the exercise.
