KLT COMMAND RAKES IN ₦89.2 BILLION, SEIZES 2 CONTAINER LOADS OF EXPIRED PYAMACEUTICALS IN SIX MONTHS


The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command of the Nigerian Customs Service has recorded a total revenue of ₦89,205,500,741.85 into the coffers of the government and seized two container loads of expired Pymaceuticals between January and June 2025.

The Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Eghosa Joy Edelduok stated this yesterday, Friday, 15th August while briefing  media men on the activities of the command within the first half of year 2025.

The CAC stated that the command, while driven by a firm commitment to increasing revenue, supporting legitimate trade, and tackling smuggling in all its forms has being active and productive

According to her, during this period, the Command implemented focused reforms, targeted at enforcement activities, and practical strategies to boost compliance, protect the national economy, and secure the borders under its jurisdiction. 

She noted that these measures produced clear results and strengthened the Command’s ability to deliver on its mandate.


Comptroller Edelduok disclosed that during the period under review, the Command recorded a total revenue collection of Eighty-Nine Billion, Two Hundred and Five Million, Five Hundred Thousand, Seven Hundred and Forty-One Naira, Eighty Five Kobo (₦89,205,500,741.85) only.

She explained that this figure represented a substantial increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024, which stood at Fifty-Four Billion, Eight Hundred and Six Million, Eight Hundred and Ninety-Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Ninety-Seven Naira (₦54,806,893,697.00) only

She added that the difference of Thirty-Four Billion, Three Hundred and Ninety-Eight Million, Six Hundred and Seven Thousand, and Forty-Four Naira, Eighty-Five Kobo (₦34,398,607,044.85)only reflects a 63 percent growth, demonstrating the Command’s enhanced operational efficiency and improved compliance levels.


In the area of Anti Smuggling operations, Comptroller Edelduok reported that the Command maintained a posture of alertness, discipline and zero tolerance for infractions.  She revealed that the enforcement team intercepted two (2) forty-foot containers, identified as HLBU 1067338 and HLBU 2239792, both loaded with expired pharmaceutical products, with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of One Hundred and Thirty Million Naira (₦130,000,000.00) only.

She stated that the items contravene the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other import laws, adding that the Command has commenced the formal process of handing them over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for necessary action

She reaffirmed the command’s commitment to applying the law without compromise in order to protect public health, and uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and professionalism in all aspects of its operations. She assured that the Command would continue to engage constructively with stakeholders through open communication, inter-agency cooperation, and compliance-driven facilitation.

Comptroller Edelduok expressed sincere appreciation to all stakeholders and partner agencies for their continued cooperation and support. She described their contributions as critical to the effective delivery of the Command’s mandate and the advancement of the national economy.

She also commended the officers and men of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command for their diligence, discipline, and commitment to duty. She urged them to maintain this high standard and continue to uphold the values of the Service in all their engagements.

Comptroller Edelduok further  conveyed deep gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, and his Management Team for their strategic guidance, motivation and the enabling environment provided for operational success.

She extended her appreciation to the media for their consistent and objective coverage, noting that their contributions were invaluable in strengthening public trust and institutional accountability.

In conclusion, Comptroller Edelduok  emphasized that the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command remains dedicated to the diligent discharge of its statutory responsibilities in alignment with the broader goals of national security, economic growth, and service excellence.
