WISTA Nigeria Celebrates Landmark Appointments of Female Maritime Leaders in Ghana and Nigeria


The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Nigeria proudly celebrates the historic appointments of two distinguished women leaders in the maritime industry: Madam Jemilat Mahamah as Chairman of the Board of the Ghana Maritime Authority and Ms. Iroghama Ogbeifun as a Board Member of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).


According to a statement signed by the president, Dr. Odunayo Ani, the appointment of Madam Mahamah’s marks a pivotal moment for Ghana and the wider maritime community. A symbol of visionary leadership and dedicated service, her elevation brings pride to WISTA Ghana, WISTA Africa, and the global WISTA network. “We are immensely proud of Madam Mahamah’s achievement,” said Dr. Odunayo Ani, President of WISTA Nigeria. “Her leadership promises bold reforms and strategic progress for Ghana’s maritime sector.”


Equally, Ms. Iroghama Ogbeifun’s appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is a testament to her outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s maritime industry. As CEO of Starzs Investments and a long-standing, supportive member of WISTA Nigeria, Ms. Ogbeifun’s inclusion on the NIMASA Board reflects the growing impact of female leadership in shaping maritime governance. “Her appointment is a powerful affirmation of women’s capacity to lead and transform the industry,” added Dr. Ani.


WISTA Nigeria regards both appointments as victories for inclusive leadership and gender representation across West Africa’s maritime landscape. These milestones reinforce the association’s commitment to advancing women’s leadership and fostering collaboration across the region.

NIMASA Reshuffles Management Team For Enhanced Efficiency And Inter-departmental Collaboration

I n an exercise aimed  at strengthening  inter-departmental collaboration and inject new energy into the system to further improve performance and enhance efficiency across the maritime sector, The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has announced a strategic redeployment of its management staff as part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery in line with its core mandate.   Under the new structure, according to a press statement issued by Mr. Edward Osagie FNIPR,  Head, Public Relations Officer of the agency, a total of 56 management staff were affected in the exercise.
