TinCan Customs Hands Over #8 Billion Worth of Illicit Drugs to NDLEA


The TinCan Island command of the Nigeria Customs Service yesterday, 10th of March 2025 handed over illicit drugs worth over Right Billion Naira seized by the command to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA TinCan Ports for further actions

In a brief handing over ceremony held in the Enforcement Unit of the Tincan Island Port Command , the Customs Area Controller,  Comptroller Frank Onyeka who handed over the seized item to Tincan Island Strategic Command Mitchell Ofoyeju noted that the drugs were intercepted due to high level of intelligence gathered by officers in the Command, in collaboration with the men of the NDLEA.


He disclosed that the drugs were contained in 2X20FT containers which were intercepted in different batches were falsely declared to contain used Cars and used Auto Spare parts originating from Canada.
He gave the breakdown of the consignments as follows:

The breakdown of the seizure are; 1X20 ft Container No. TCNU 194586/1, which was intercepted on the 27 of February , 2025 was found to contain 128 packets of Cannabis Indica, Which weighed a total of 63.75 kilograms with an an estimated street value of Four Hundred and Fourteen Million, Three Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand Naira Only (414,375,000.00)




The second container with no. MSMU 838666/3 was intercepted on the 12 of December , 2024 and was found to contain 97 packets of Crystals Methamphetamine, weighing a total of 78.3 kilograms with an estimated street value of  Two Billion Naira only (2,000,000,000.00) and 1,735 packets of Cannabis Indica with a total weight of 867.5 kilograms and an estimated street value of Five Billion, Six Hundred and Thirty Eight Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (5,638,750,000.00), which brought the total street value of the seized drugs to  Eight Billion, Fifty Three Million, One Hundred and Twenty Five Thousand Naira only (8,053,125,000.00)

According to Comptroller Onyeka, these seizures underscore the Command's dedication to safeguarding the Nation from the menace of illicit drugs. He reiterated the Command's commitment to facilitating trade, while remaining vigilant against activities that threatens National Security and public health.

While pointing out that the Command will continue to enhance its operational strategies, including intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration, to effectively combat smuggling and other illicit activities, Comptrollers Onyeka used the medium to urge all stakeholders to support the efforts of the Command in maintaining the integrity of Nigeria's borders and ports.

Breaking News: CBN Ordered To Immediately Suspend Enforcement Of Cuber-Security Levy

Hon. Tajudeen Abbass Speaker of the House of Representatives   The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the enforcement of the controversial cybersecurity levy. The House took this decision following a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members. The House had expressed concern that the circular issued by the CBN could be misunderstood by Nigerians, it however, noted that the directive does not align with the principles outlined in section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act regarding the recipients responsible for paying the levy. The House urged the CBN to promptly retract its previous circular regarding the levy’s enforcement and instead publish a new circular aligned with the Act’s provisions. The cybersecurity levy was introduced by CBN through a circular to all banks on May 6, 2024, in accordance with the stipulations of the cybercrime Act.
