KLT Customs Hands Over Seized Cannabis Indica To NDLEA

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT)  Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)  has handed over seized cannabis indica weighing 51.25kg worth N256, 250,000 to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The seizure, according to the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the command, Comptroller Joy Eghosa Edelduok  was made possible through policy trust of collaboration, consolidation and innovation of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR .

The CAC stated this in her speech at the handing over ceremony held at the command's headquarters in Kirikiri yesterday the 18th September 2024.

Giving account of the seizure, the CAC said, "on Wednesday 11th of September, our vigilant officers working in conjunction with the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), intercepted a consignment of cannabis indica weighing 51.25kg valued at N256,250,OOO million naira.; This violates the provision of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, section 55 sub-section lc and If".

This interception, according to Compt.Edelduok is a testament of the Nigerian Customs continued dedication and commitment to safeguarding Nigeria borders from the importation of illicit and harmful substances.

“The negative impact of hard drugs on the social, economic and political lives of a people cannot be overemphasized. It is therefore fitting that the efforts put in by Officers and Men of the Service continues to yield fruit in order that the Nigerian people may be truly protected from the menace of hard drugs".

Handing over the drugs and the suspect to operative of NDLEA for further investigation and action, the CAC said,  "we hand over this consignment, along with the suspects involved, to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution. The full weight of the law will be brought to bear on these individuals, and we remain resolute that anyone caught attempting to smuggle contraband or banned substances into Nigeria will face the same fate.

While assuring legitimate and law abiding importers of the NCS commitment to unhindered trade  facilitation, the visionary and vibrant Comptroller passed a strong warning message to those seeking to engage in illegal activities  saying,  " our message is simple: there is no room for criminality in Nigeria Custom Service, and anyone who dare to breach the law of the country will be caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law".
