ACG Yusuf Visits TimCan Command ...Lists 18 Officers For Commendation As Command's Revenue Hits N669bn

The Customs Zonal Coordinator of Zone 'A'  ACG Saidu Yusuf on Wednesday visited the Tin Can Island customs command and expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Command’s officers.

He commended  the high-level of seizures, ever-increasing revenue collection being witnessed in the command as well as the Command’s pilot status for Time Release Study (TRS) which, according to him, underscores the diligence of the officers and men of the command.

The Zonal coordinator, who applauded the Command's Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni, urged the officers not to relent in their efforts which  according to him, are in tandem with the expectations of the Customs management

In his words: “Nnadi has been up and doing on his game especially in seizures of arms and ammunition, drugs and also in revenue. Don’t relent in ensuring that you follow the laid down processes".

The visiting Zonal Coordinator noted that 18 officers at TCIP Command, including the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Okwara, have been listed for Commendation Letters for their distinguished service.  He also stressed on the need to intensify examination of cargoes which he described as the only issue that’s yet to be optimized in the NCS presently.

“Proper examination has to be conducted. Apart from security, as Customs officers we also safeguard the health of the nation. If these narcotics and harmful substances pass through us, it goes into the Nigerian market,” Yusuf remarked.

He, however, admonished TCIP officers not to allow anyone put an overbearing financial pressure on them as it could lead to unnecessary pressure at their various duty posts. He called on the officers to protect every customs asset in their domain in the face of any threat of protest.

In his remarks, Comptroller Nnadi revealed that the Command had collected over N669billion revenue as at the morning of  Wednesday, July 24th,  which represents over 93 percent of the entire sum generated for 2023 which  stood at N716billion.

While optimistic that the Command will meet its N1.4trillion revenue target for 2024, Compt. Nnadi stressed that Non-Standard VIN valuation remains a challenge for some stakeholders at TCIP which has vehicles as the mainstay of its revenue.

He further stated; “PAAR isn’t also embraced by some freight forwarders on behalf of their clients. It is our wish that more enlightenment campaigns are organized to increase stakeholders’ understanding and acceptance of PAAR".

He explained that PAAR not only serves as an accounting tool for the revenue generated by Customs, but equally serves as a security tool to monitor the kind of cargoes coming into the nation and it functions as a trade data available for business persons.

Nnadi, while expressing gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his management team  for their  support to the command,  thanked the Zonal Coordinator for his  decision to reward 18 officers of the Command.
