... Hand Over seized Arms and Illicit Drugs To Concerned Agencies
The Tin-Can Island port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it has generated over N240.3b as revenue from January till 14th of March 2024.
The Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi made this disclosure at a press briefing in the command's Conference hall yesterday.
According to him, the command made an impressive performance in revenue generation as the sum of N240,302,000,000.00 generated so far show that the command, considering it's monthly revenue target of N94billion has surpassed it January and February target by 107 percent and 141 percent respectively.
I his word, “If you recall, our revenue target on a monthly basis is N94billion, What this means is that we have been able to surpass our expected revenue target of N188billion for January and February;
“By way of percentage, we have surpassed our January revenue target by 107 percent and also surpassed our February target by 141 percent.
In the same vain, Comptroller Nnadi also announced that the Command's anti-smuggling drive yielded to the seizure of arms, ammunition and illicit drugs which were imported into the country by a drug syndicate.
The record of arms and ammunition intercepted by the command, according to the CAC are a total of 11 Rifles and six Pistols from different containers at different times which includes, one 20P 9964 Rifle; another 20P 9964 Rifle; one Pump Action Rifle; one Practical Tactical 30H PTO19922 Rifle; another 20P 992 Rifle; two AV Pump Action Rifle; another P10115 Rifle and other dangerous weapons. But the customs boss said the source of the arms cannot be disclosed due to the fact that investigations are still on-going.
In the fight against illicit and dangerous drugs, the command made seizures colorado, (cannabis indica) and heroine, these seizures of drug according to Nnadi was made possible through collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
In his word, "In addition to these, the command in recent times also made yet another seizure of psychotropic substances imported into the country but through the collaboration of our partner agency, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), they were intercepted; “Based on this collaboration, several kilograms of cannabis indica has been seized. The latest seizure was 23 packages containing 23 Kilograms of heroine were seen in a container, the identity of which we are still keeping secret because investigation is still ongoing".
“Let me also state that our resolve to make these seizures is to further support government’s efforts to keep the nation safe. As we are all aware, the conveyors of these products intend to use them for nefarious activities that include support to insurgents, kidnapping activities and other vices that are inimical to the well-being and security of our nation".
The Customs Area Controller also used the event to handed over the seized drugs and arms to the relevant concerned agencies. The arms and ammunition were handed over to the State Security Service (SSS) while the drugs were handed over to the NDLEA.
Receiving the drugs on behalf of the NDLEA, Mr Mohammed Aminu Abubarkar the Commander Narcotics of TinCan Island port appreciated the efforts of the Nigeria Customs service in the fight against drug trafficking which led to the arrest of the drugs being handed over, he commended the efforts of the Special Intelligence Unit of the NDLEA TinCan Island Port for sourcing for information and processing the information which culmilated to what is being witnessed today.
He stated that the source of the drugs is from an international syndicate noted for trafficking illicit drugs across different continents. he noted that the seized heroin has a relationship with that which was seized recently at the Murtala Mohammed international airport where 51.9kg of heroin was seized.
He commended the collaborative efforts of sister agencies at the port in making sure these illicit and dangerous substance does not find it's ways into the society.
