Attack On Facility: Gov. Buni Condoles With Customs Over Death Of Officer


 The Yobe state Governor,  Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, has condoled with the management of the Nigerian Customs Service and the family of the officer killed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Geidam on Saturday during the attack on Customs facility in the state.


Governor Buni who, according to press release signed by his 

DG, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, described the attack and the sad loss of the officer as sad and unfortunate as the state enjoys relative peace now.


He however said the attack should be seen as a wake up call for the security agents and the citizens not to  be carried away by the relative peace currents enjoyed in the state but to be more vigilant.


The statement reads in parts, "It is sad that we are visited by this unfortunate incident at a time when we enjoy relative peace across the state, "Our gallant security operatives have no doubt maintained watchful eyes to maintain security to lives and property in the state.


"This unfortunate attack however, is a wake up call to all of us to be vigilant, and we should not be carried away by the peace we enjoy and taken by surprises.


While sympathizing with the NCS, the Governor said,  "I extend the sympathy and condolences of the government and people of Yobe state to the Nigeria Customs Service, the Controller General and family of the slain officer”.


He assured the commitment of his administration to continue partnering with security operatives in the state to improve on the relative peace enjoyed across the state.


Governor Buni called on the people of the state to always provide timely and useful information to government and security agencies on questionable persons and movements in their various communities.

Breaking News: CBN Ordered To Immediately Suspend Enforcement Of Cuber-Security Levy

Hon. Tajudeen Abbass Speaker of the House of Representatives   The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the enforcement of the controversial cybersecurity levy. The House took this decision following a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members. The House had expressed concern that the circular issued by the CBN could be misunderstood by Nigerians, it however, noted that the directive does not align with the principles outlined in section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act regarding the recipients responsible for paying the levy. The House urged the CBN to promptly retract its previous circular regarding the levy’s enforcement and instead publish a new circular aligned with the Act’s provisions. The cybersecurity levy was introduced by CBN through a circular to all banks on May 6, 2024, in accordance with the stipulations of the cybercrime Act.
