MMA Command Records Remarkable Achievements. Generates Over #38b In Six Month


The dynamic  leadership of Comptroller MS Yusuf, the Customs Area Controller of the Muritala Mohammed Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Sevice  has continued to achieve significant milestones, surpassing previous records in both revenue generation and anti-smuggling efforts.

According to a press release by  the command’s public relations Officer,  Superintendent VU Ogagbor, the Controller 

Since assuming office, has been steadfast in implementing standard best practices, thereby facilitating trade and enhancing the ease of doing business, resulting in a remarkable increase in revenue generation.


The command, between January to June 2023 successfully generated a total of Thirty-eight Billion, Seven Hundred and Seven Million, Fifty-four Thousand, Two Hundred and Sixteen Naira, Forty-four Kobo (N38,707,054,216.44), representing an impressive 79.6% of the annual revenue target met.



This, according to the release stands in contrast to the figures from the same period in 2022, where the revenue generated was Thirty-four Billion, Eight Hundred and Fifty-four Million, Four Hundred and Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty Naira, Ninety Kobo (N34,854,408,350.90), signifying a notable 11%


Also, in the area of anti snuggling, the Command demonstrated commendable and remarkable success within the period under review.

The Enforcement Unit of the Command worked in collaboration with other key stakeholders to carry out several anti-smuggling activities, which led to the seizure of fifteen (15) consignments of Tramadol, Dried Shark Fins, and Live Turtle, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Twenty-seven Billion, Seven Hundred and Fifty-eight Million, Thirteen Thousand, Nine Hundred, and Ninety-three Naira, Forty-seven Kobo (N27,758,013,993.47k).



It’s noteworthy that Shark Fin and Live Turtle fall under the classification of endangered species, emphasizing the command’s commitment to protect the environment and combat illegal wildlife trafficking.


In the spirit of inter-departmental cooperation, the Command has handed over the confiscated Tramadol packages to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), exemplifying a united effort in tackling smuggling and illicit drug trade.

The Customs Area Controller, COMPT.MS Yusuf, expressed gratitude for the unwavering cooperation of all stakeholders in achieving these outstanding results.


He reassured the public and business community of the command’s determination to sustain and improve upon its revenue generation in the second half of 2023.

The Area Comptroller also highlighted the importance of continuous inter-agency collaboration to combat smuggling and ensure a secure and prosperous business environment at Murtala Muhammed Airport.

The achievements of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Area command under the leadership of Comptroller Yusuf are a testament to the dedication and professionalism of the customs officers and the collaborative efforts of all relevant stakeholders.

These impressive results not only boost revenue generation but also underscore the commitment to protect the nation’s borders and preserve the environment for future generations.
