Customs Community Relations: Seme Command Calls For Seamless Relationship With Host Communities


The Customs Area Controller of Seme Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi has called for a more seamless and harmonious relationship between Customs officers and the host communities along the borders areas.


He stated this during a stakeholders meeting with community leaders and various interest groups operating within the Seme-Badagry command on Tuesday.



Speaking at the meeting, the CAC described Seme-Krake axis as the most peaceful border regions he has served as a Customs officer as he was yet to receive any information about a clash between the community and his officers since his assumption of duty at the command, He thanked the community leaders for collaborating with Customs in trying to reduce smuggling within the area to the barest minimum. He however, warned that the command will no  longer tolerate street trading and hawking within border corridor which, according to him disparages the international transit route.



In his remarks, the Badagry West Local Government Chairman, Mr Joseph Gbenu applauded the customs boss for reducing customs checkpoints along the corridors, he called on other government security agencies to join customs to reduce their own in order to facilitate legitimate trade along the corridors.



The traditional ruler of Kwame Kingdom, Oba Sejiro James thanks the CAC for convaining the meeting starting that for the past 16 years he had been on the throne, this is the first time he has been called for such a meeting which according to him is vital to improve the relationship between the government agencies and his community.


Representatives of various interests groups in the area highlighted the challenges being faced in the area and went further pleaded on the government to lift the ban on vehicle importation through the land boarders saying that this will not only increase government revenue from the command but will gainfully engage the citizens and especially the youths in a more legitimate business.



After listening to the plights and challenges of other stakeholders, Nnadi assured them of positive corporations of the government and the command, he disclosed that the Service will more for the communities through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects.


In a bid to promote healthy coexistence among the various communities and interest groups in the area, Controller Nnadi presented sporting kits to the various community representatives and informed that football competition would be stage where trophy will be presented to winners and prize money will be used to redeem the trophy.



Controller Nnadi also used the opportunity to thank the management of Dangote Group for providing the command with waste bins to be stationed at strategic positions and urged the stakeholders to stop the indiscriminate dumping of waste and  make use of the bins provided to keep the environment clean at all times.

Breaking News: CBN Ordered To Immediately Suspend Enforcement Of Cuber-Security Levy

Hon. Tajudeen Abbass Speaker of the House of Representatives   The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the enforcement of the controversial cybersecurity levy. The House took this decision following a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members. The House had expressed concern that the circular issued by the CBN could be misunderstood by Nigerians, it however, noted that the directive does not align with the principles outlined in section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act regarding the recipients responsible for paying the levy. The House urged the CBN to promptly retract its previous circular regarding the levy’s enforcement and instead publish a new circular aligned with the Act’s provisions. The cybersecurity levy was introduced by CBN through a circular to all banks on May 6, 2024, in accordance with the stipulations of the cybercrime Act.
