NSC MANAGEMENT PAYS ADVOCACY VISIT TO MWUN

Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, President-General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria welcoming Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Jime, Executive Secretary/CEO,  Nigerian Shippers’ Council to the Union’s Secretariat

Following the strike embarked upon by the members of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) at the AP Molar Terminal in Apapa, the Management of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) led by Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Hon. Emmanuel Jime, paid an advocacy visit to the Union’s Office on Thursday.


According to the statement by Rakiya Dhikru-Yagboyaju, Head, 
Public Relations of NSC, the President General of the union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, welcomed the management and  commended the Council for its various efforts in the maritime industry.

Comrade Adeyanju expressed his  disappointment at the attitude of APM Terminal management specifically the “Hire & Fire” system. He also complained about the poor retirement package APMT gives its employees.

Also speaking at the meeting Comrade Tunde Balogun the District Chairman, APMT spoked  about APM Terminal’s employment of foreign workers instead of Nigerians, demotion of staff in order to accommodate expatriates in higher positions of the organization and the employment of inexperienced workers to high positions in the organization. He also bemoaned the discriminatory payment structure of the organization.

Responding, the Executive Secretary of NSC who was described by Com. Adeyanju as an ambassador of peace pledged to engage the management of APMT with a view to resolving the issues. He also pleaded with the President General of the MWUN for some more time in order to achieve the desired goals.

Breaking News: CBN Ordered To Immediately Suspend Enforcement Of Cuber-Security Levy

Hon. Tajudeen Abbass Speaker of the House of Representatives   The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the enforcement of the controversial cybersecurity levy. The House took this decision following a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members. The House had expressed concern that the circular issued by the CBN could be misunderstood by Nigerians, it however, noted that the directive does not align with the principles outlined in section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act regarding the recipients responsible for paying the levy. The House urged the CBN to promptly retract its previous circular regarding the levy’s enforcement and instead publish a new circular aligned with the Act’s provisions. The cybersecurity levy was introduced by CBN through a circular to all banks on May 6, 2024, in accordance with the stipulations of the cybercrime Act.
