Port Corridors: FMOT Tasks Stakeholders To Tackle Corruption


The  Federal Ministry of Transportation (FMOT) on Thursday charged the stakeholders in the maritime sector to resolve the lingering issues of corruption along the Lagos seaports corridors.

The Permanent Secretary, ministry of Transport,  Dr. Magdalene Ajani stated this at a One day programme organised by the Port Standing Task Team (PSTT) of the New Port Manual Process (NPPM) .

The event which has the theme “Operation Free The Ports and Terminals had in attendance ; truck owners, Labour union workers , government agencies, freight forwarders.

Dr. Ajani who noted that the PSTT has already been making progress with regards to free access around the port access roads, maintained that stakeholders and relevant government agencies within the port corridors have critical roles to play in the eradication of the numerous challenges faced by maritime operators in the country.


In Her words: “It takes everyone to be onboard to achieve this and we need to have a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This is where NPPM comes in because it puts together the SOPs of the various agencies in one document".

Earlier In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary, (ES) Nigerian Shippers Council, (NSC), reiterated the need for stakeholders to work together in resolving the numerous challenges along the port corridors.

Jime insists that the Council and other relevant maritime agencies will work round the clock toward ensuring the progress of PSTT.

While expressing satisfaction on the activities of the PSTT in the last one year, the ES urged operators to work closely with the team, He also thanked the team for constituting an enlarged task team for removing illegal checkpoints and shanties along the port corridors.

On his part, the Leader of the PSTT, Mr. Moses Fadipe who is the Deputy Director Special Duties At NSC, noted that there is quick discharge of cargoes at terminals and speedy turnaround of vessels at the anchorage but the problems on the port access roads hinders the other successes.   

Mr. fadipe expressed delight at the zeal with which members of the team addresses numerous issues, he  encouraged them to continue such approach with the new task of freeing the ports and terminals corridors,

NIMASA Reshuffles Management Team For Enhanced Efficiency And Inter-departmental Collaboration
