Eid-el-Fitr: FG approves Additional Public Holiday

The Federal Government has approved Thursday as an additional public holiday to celebrate the 2024 end of Ramadan  (Eid -El-Fitr.) This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Dr Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior. Part of the statement reads, “The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, while congratulating the muslim Ummah for a successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation, reiterates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) firm commitment to providing a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all to thrive”. The government had earlier on Sunday, announced Tuesday and Wednesday for the celebration of the Eid-El-Fitr but the spiritual crescent moon which signifies the completion of the fasting could not be spotted on Monday, prompting the extension of the holidays. MARITIME SECURITY: NIGERIA, SPAIN TO DEEPEN COOPERATION

The Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Ambassador Juan Ignacio Sell has declared that the Spanish Government is desirous to deepen cooperation with Nigeria through further collaboration with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA. Ambassador Juan made this declaration while inspecting the two new Bulletproof Security boats, built for NIMASA by a Spanish Company, Aresa. This is just as the Director General of NIMASA Dr. Dayo Mobereola says deploying the vessels is priority. Kano Lawmaker Dies At 59

A law maker, representing the Shanono/Bagwai State Constituency in Kano state has passed on at the age of 59. The Law Maker, Halilu Kundila, a member of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) according to a family source who confirmed the death said that the lawmaker died at his residence in the late hours of Saturday, the 7th of April, 2024 following a brief illness. According to the source, the funeral prayer for the deceased lawmaker was held on Sunday morning at Kundila in the Shanono Local Government Area of the state and was buried today in accordance with the Muslim injunctions. Among those who attended the funeral prayer were the House of Representatives member, Shanono/Bagwai, Yusuf Badau, as well as some of his colleagues from the state assembly. The late lawmaker is survived by four wives and 17 children. May Almighty Allah console the family and grant him eternal life.

First Quarter Report: Apapa Customs Surpasses 2023 Figure by Over 100%

The Apapa Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) within the first quarter of 2024 has surpassed it's 2023 record in revenue generation by over hundred percent. The command said it collected a total revenue of N489,614,095,022.15 as against the sum of  N212.5b collected within the same period of 2023. The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the command, Comptroller Babajide Jaiyeoba, who commended the officers and port stakeholders for their cooperation towards the attainment of the laudable feat and called for sustained compliance by government and private sector stakeholders. The Controller in a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer of the command, CSC Abubakar Usman reminded officers and stakeholders that the Apapa Command of the NCS is playing a critical role towards the realisation of the N5.7tr annual target of the NCS in 2024 and as such all hands should be on deck to achieve it. EFCC Files Fresh 26-Count Charge Against Embattled Former CBN Governor

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a fresh 26-count charge bordering on abuse of office and corruption against the embattled immediate past governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Mr. Godwin Emefiele. Emefiele will be arraigned before Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja on Monday, April 8 on counts bordering on accepting gratification, accepting gifts through agents, corruption, receipt of property fraudulently obtained, and conferring corrupt advantage on his associates contrary to the Corrupt Practices Act of 2000. According to a report by a national  Television stations, the new charges was filed on April 3rd by the EFCC Prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN). Court Slams #5M Damages Against EFCC

The Federal High Court in Abuja has reportedly awarded the sum of ₦5million against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for posting the picture of a suspect, Mr. Nasiru Saidu Ali before trial. A human rights lawyer, Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi made this disclosure while he was addressing journalists. Mr Olajengbesi, whose law firm challenged EFCC, for their habitual publication of the suspect's name on social media, without the suspect being convicted for the alleged crimes. Mr Olajengbesi had kicked against the decision of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC), to publish images and names of individuals arrested for alleged crimes, even without those people being convicted by a court. FOU Zone A Seizes N2.8bn Worth Of Goods

...Arrests 29 suspects Within Three Months The Federal Operations Unit Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service in it's efforts in combating smuggling within the zone recorded a total seizures of 206 with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N2,877,049,777 in  first quarter of 2024.  This was disclosed by the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the unit,  Comptroller Hussein Ejibunu at a press briefing in Lagos yesterday, Friday 5th April, 2024. He also disclosed that the unit was able to apprehend 29 suspects in connection with the various seizures within the review period. Giving a breakdown of the seizures, Ejibunu noted that the various contraband items seized within the period includes,12,278 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 40 units of used vehicles, 286 cartons of rubber slippers, and 1,220 cartons of foreign tomato paste. Others are 2,705 kegs of premium motor spirit, 3,510 pieces of used pneumatic tyres, 330 bales of used clothes, 2,230 kg of Indian Hemp, 1,569 cartons of foreign frozen

...Urge Them To Collaborate With Trade Unions To Defend Human Rights Legal luminary and human right lawyer, Mr Falana SAN, has chided the various students associations and the National Association of Nigerian Students for what he described as them becoming the mouthpiece of the Nigerian Government. The legal icon made this disclosure through a statement signed by Tayo Soyemi of Falana and Falana Chambers on Thursday,. The statement reads in parts, “Notwithstanding the opportunism of a few student leaders, NANS should be recognised and repositioned to defend Nigerian students.
