Tincan Island Command Partners Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation To Promote International Tournament


In an effort to promote sports and youth empowerment in Nigeria, the Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, played host to the leadership of the Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation (NPWF).


The delegation, led by the National President of the Federation, Chief John Uche was received by the Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, at the Command Headquarters in Lagos.


In a statement issued and signed by the command public relation officer, CSC Oscar Ivara, the purpose of the visit was to formally inform the Command about the upcoming African International Wrestling Championship scheduled to take place from October 18 to 19, 2025, at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State.



Chief Uche disclosed that the international event will feature wrestling legends and emerging talents from Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and several African nations. He emphasized that the championship is aimed at showcasing Nigeria’s untapped wrestling potential, while also serving as a platform to empower over 100 Nigerian youths through grassroots development programs.


He further highlighted that the Federation’s broader objectives include curbing youth restiveness, reducing poverty, and creating sustainable job opportunities through sporting events.


In his remarks, Comptroller Frank Onyeka commended the Federation for its efforts in promoting local sporting activities and for recognizing the Nigeria Customs Service as a strategic partner. 


He affirmed the Service's unwavering commitment to youth development and grassroots sports promotion under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, psc (+).


Comptroller Onyeka also noted that the Customs Service has consistently supported various sporting initiatives across the country and will continue to collaborate with stakeholders committed to national development through sports.


The high point of the visit was the unveiling and formal presentation of the championship trophy and award of excellence to the Customs Area Controller by the NPWF leadership, symbolizing partnership and mutual commitment to the success of the tournament

Breaking News: CBN Ordered To Immediately Suspend Enforcement Of Cuber-Security Levy

Hon. Tajudeen Abbass Speaker of the House of Representatives   The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the enforcement of the controversial cybersecurity levy. The House took this decision following a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members. The House had expressed concern that the circular issued by the CBN could be misunderstood by Nigerians, it however, noted that the directive does not align with the principles outlined in section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act regarding the recipients responsible for paying the levy. The House urged the CBN to promptly retract its previous circular regarding the levy’s enforcement and instead publish a new circular aligned with the Act’s provisions. The cybersecurity levy was introduced by CBN through a circular to all banks on May 6, 2024, in accordance with the stipulations of the cybercrime Act.
