FOU Zone 'A' Intercepts, Industrial Drones, Firearms, Live Ammunition, Others Along Ogun and Ondo State
The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone 'A,' of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has once again exhibited it's prowess in combating smuggling and illicit traffic of dangerous and security risk goods within it's operational jurisdiction.
The unit, yesterday announced the interception of dangerous items, which includes 15 automatic firearms, 4,841 live ammunition, 2 industrial drones, sacks of second hand clothes and smuggled pharmaceutical products.
The Customs Area Controller of the Unit, Comptroller MS Shuaibu disclosed this yesterday, 2nd September 2025 while addressing media men at the Unit’s Headquarters in Lagos.
Giving account of the seizures, Comptroller Shuaibu informed that the seizure was made possible in a coordinated enforcement operation, after receiving an intelligence report. The patrol team moved to arrest the suspected smugglers, who later abandoned their vehicle to evade arrest but only One suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure.
The Comptroller emphasized that the seizure underscores the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to combat smuggling and protect the country’s borders.
He noted that the unit’s efforts are yielding positive results and they will continue to work tirelessly to prevent smuggling activities in the country especially within it's operational jurisdiction.
Shuaibu said the seizures, with a duty paid value of ₦377.1 million, were made possible through intelligence-led enforcement operations. He stressed that the importation of arms, ammunition, or drones without approval and permits from the National Security Adviser constitutes a grave threat to national security.
He reiterated that arms and drones of such nature can only be imported with clearance and an End User Certificate from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). Any attempt to bypass this, he stressed, would be treated as a threat to national security.
Comptroller Shuaibu on behalf of Comptroller General of customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR handed over the intercepted items to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) for further investigation and prosecution. He used the opportunity to urged Nigerians to report any suspicious movements of people in their environment to the law enforcement agents.
Shuaibu praised his officers for their bravery and patriotism, noting that such operations require both courage and precision. “Our men risk their lives daily to protect this country, they deserve recognition for their sacrifices". he said.
