WORLD MARITIME DAY: NIGERIA JOINS IMO ON GREENER SHIPPING FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The Honorable Minister of Transportation Alhaji  Mu ’a zu Jaji Sambo says Nigeria is committed to achieving greener  shipping  in line with the campaign by the International Mariti me Organization, IMO, to attain sustainable development in the maritime industry.  This is just as Nigeria joins the IMO to commemorate the  2022  World Maritime Day . Sambo Unveils Opportunities in Transport Sector to Foreign Investors, Assures of ROI

The Honourable   Minister of Transport, Alhaji Muazu Sambo, last week in the United States of America presented varieties of investment opportunities in Nigeria’s transport sector to foreign investors  assuring them of guaranteed and secure return of investment  in the country. Among the areas of investment which the Minister presented to the investors include maritime, rail, inland dry ports and inland waterways subsector. The Minister said that with Nigeria’s 200million population spread across almost one million square km of land area, no foreign investor will regret investing in the country. While speaking on a paper titled "Financing Transport Infrastructure" and delivered at the Nigerian International Economic Partnership Forum in New York, USA, Sambo identified areas of investment opportunities for foreign investors also assured them of promising return on investment. JAMOH BAGS NATIONAL HONOURS OF OFR.

The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh, is set to be honoured by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari with the conferment of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).     This was disclosed in a conveyance letter to Dr. Jamoh from the Office of the Honourable Minister, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume. Seme Customs Command Intercepts N19m Worth of PMS

Operatives of Seme Border Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recently intercepted N19,785,000 worth of premium motor spirit (PMS) from suspected smugglers within their area of jurisdiction. According to a press release issued by the command's Public Relations Officer (P.R.O), Hussaini Abdullahi, said the petrol which were packed in 319 sacks and 1500 Jerry cans were intercepted in the early hours of Thursday, September 22, 2022 The release also stated that the seizures which were made by officers on a routine patrol along the bushes within Seme and Badagry is in continuation of the command’s efforts to suppress the smuggling of the petroleum products within the nooks and crannies of the Command. The seized petroleum products according to the statement is  estimated to be about two thousand five hundred (2500) Jerry cans of thirty (30) litres each equivalent to Seventy-Five thousand (75,000) litres. CONMMEP CONDOLES SIFAX BOSS OVER TWIN BROTHER'S DEATH

The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) has commiserated with the Chairman of SIFAX Group, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi over the demise of his twin brother, Mr. Kehinde Afolabi.  In a condolence letter to Dr. Afolabi, the president of the association, Alhaji Tunde Umar- Daniah,  regretted the painful exit of Mr. kehinde Afolabi describing it as a collosal loss, and prayed God Almighty to grant the family the fortitude to overcome its attendant trauma. CONMMEP in the letter, described death as an inevitable end of all mortals, and humans having  helplessly embraced the reality, must take absolute control of their emotions while mourning a loved one in order to avoid taking dangerous decisions in such event. Five Arrested As NDLEA Seizes Over #194B Worth Of Cocaine In Lagos

The suspects arrested by the operatives  In what appears to be the biggest singular cocaine  seizure in the history of Nigeria’s anti-narcotic agency, five persons were arrested when Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), busted a major warehouse in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State where 1.8tons (1,855kg) of the illicit drug worth more than $278.3million (N194.8million) street value were seized.  According to a statement signed by the Director, Media & Advocacy of NDLEA,  Femi Babafemi on Monday, September 19, 2022, said at least, four drug barons including a Jamaican and the warehouse manager have been arrested in the well-coordinated and intelligence led operation that lasted for two days across different locations in Lagos state. Customs Finally Exempt Enterprise in FTZ From Duty Payments For Local Raw Materials

Follo wing the resolve of the management of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to create an enabling environment for investors, the Service has announced that enterprises in the country’s Free Trade Zones (FTZ) will not pay Duty for locally sourced raw materials. The NCS also highlighted that when finished product from the raw materials is taken into the Customs territory, it will not pay freight, while the companies will also get demurrage waivers. The Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) of Customs, Excise, Free Trade Zone and Industrial Incentive (Exc, FTZ & II), Katherine Ekekezie, made these known recently in Lagos during the stakeholders sensitisation and closing ceremony on procedure for goods manufactured in FTZs destined for Customs territory. Transport Ministry to Deploy Present-day Technology To Tackle Rail Insecurity

  The wor risome security situation in the country has necessitated the Ministry of Transportation to develop framework to finding lasting solution to the lingering rail and road insecurity as it disclosed plans to employ present-day technology and rapid response using relevant security agencies to curb the menace.   The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) on Thursday, moved to improve the quality of teaching in Taraba state as it  donated learning materials for pupils in basic schools in the state. Director General  of NIMASA , Dr. Bashir Jamoh  who was represented by a Public Relations Officer from the Agency, Kefas Kubuza William  while presenting the items to school children in Jalingo said the gesture was part of the agency’s efforts to support the education of children in the state. Jamoh said the agency had procured medical equipment to also boost primary health care services in the state.
